My first first author paper from my PhD work from and is now live! We found that sharp-wave ripple (SWR) deficits in mice predict spatial memory deficits later in life 1/10

a landmark paper everyone doing psychology or neuroscience in the era of deep learning should read. a core point is that "blackbox" models aren't just a messy approximation to some elegant TBD truth; in many/most cases, they're the literal answer to "how does the brain do it?"

Grateful to have this finally published We found evidence for altered PV interneuron-mediated inhibition in the mPFC of DISC1 locus impairment mice

Theta oscillations support spatial navigation and episodic memory -- but why do we often see negative theta effects in episodic memory studies with human subjects? Our new review provides some answers! Out with and

Hippocampal damage in humans reduces SWS and alters spindle-SO coupling. Interesting that hippocampus would alter a cortical phenomenon; does that mean that hippocampal SWRs might help organize spindle-SO coupling and not just vice versa?

Happy Black History Month 2020 ✨✊🏾 Every day this month I’ll be highlighting the accomplishments of a different Black female scientist, engineer, inventor, or STEM educator 👩🏾‍🏫 We are here. We’ve been here. We belong here. 👩🏾‍🔬👩🏿‍🏫👩🏽‍💻👩🏾‍🎓👩🏽‍🏭

Speed coding is quite heterogeneous across EC + CA1 layers and cell types, with differences in theta phase and direction. I wonder how that affects path integration... Another home run paper from the Mizuseki lab!

Mentioned in a tweet -> went to bed -> woke up -> a dozen European neuroscientists followed me on Twitter overnight, including the mighty . What a treat!

My name is so common, I never get to use it (without my middle name) for anything online. Had given up on finding a domain name until the husband pointed out that '.es' is a top-level domain. Now I'm the proud owner of !

The hippocampus “holds in mind” future possibilities on alternating cycles of the theta rhythm— a potential mechanism of deliberation. Honored to have been a small part of this work, and stoked for the world to see Kenny’s elegant findings!

43% of new mothers and 23% of new fathers leave full-time STEM employment after their first child. Our latest project at will identify strategies and practices to better support parents and caregivers in these fields.

Really happy to finally share the in press version of my thesis work. We dissected the GABAergic microcircuitry of the basolatetal amygdala and found that a novel subtype of Sst cells drive feedforward inhibition and PV cells drive feedback inhibition.

Just met my doppelganger Dr. Emily A. Jones via email! Google Scholar cannot believe that there could be 2 separate people with that name, let alone in the same field (she studies autism), so we keep getting credit for each other's work.

Excited to share my first postdoc paper that just came out today ! We looked at how the Locus Coeruleus modulates place fields around a rewarded location in CA1. The result of a fruitful collaboration with a graduate student!

Interesting new work that directly ties risk factors that impair CA1 theta and nested gamma to a rescue via GABAergic interneuron activity

A welcome addition to the GABAergic deficits in story: SIRT3, which is reduced in Alz, worsens interneuron loss and resulting epileptiform activity in APP/PS1 mice

Cool new Mellor lab preprint! ACh suppresses EC->CA1 FFI more so than CA3->CA1 FFI, prioritising integration of EC inputs. Yet another way ACh alters network states and possibly facilities the switch between encoding and retrieval
