Why cut it off from the API? A lot of rely on SocialBlade for good analytics. This would totally gut third party analytics (which is the real reason they're doing this)

Application Programming Interface, basically how different apps talk to each other or how you can use a platform in third party applications. @SocialBlade and many other third party apps use the YouTube API to provide better tools for content creators and this will hamstring them
