I want to make clear, I'm a huge fan of LB and her books. I love them all. It's why this show is actually even more painful for me to watch. Especially now. Right now with actual horrible violence everyday to the Asian community, this feels deeply disappointing.

Let's add diversity should never be a last minute thing. If it wasn't built into the foundation of the story, its' going to feel superficial at best, and really harmful at worst. I'm actually really sad about this.

I’m so sorry that in this time of hurt this has piled on top of it.

Accented Cinema did a great video on this. I especially prefer the Chinese approach to writing racism (beat the crap out of the racists) to the American approach (turn the other cheek against the racists)https://youtu.be/CAFMXrMl23c

Who is LB? I tried to Google but I got too many answers and was unable to narrow it down.

It’s about Leigh Bardugo’s ‘Grisha Trilogy’ and ‘Six of Crows’ duology - the Netflix adaptation “Shadow and Bone” is streaming right now!

I think you are correct, but as an adopted Asian I am going to say part of me felt seen. I've spent my life dealing with racism while also being cut off from my Koreaness(beauty) through no choice of my own. Alina's isolation felt almost too familiar.

I love the diversity of the cast. I just wish they hadn’t included racism as it wasn’t in the books.

Hi! I'm sorry for being obtuse, but why is S&B's depiction of racism bad? Isn't it good to have a character the viewers sympathise with be exposed to prejudice so we can feel for them? I want to understand these things better
