  2. Are you ready for some ? 🏈 Great grandfather and namesake of the famous Joe Montana, Giuseppe Montagna, immigrated from Italy to NYC in 1888 through Castle Garden! Ironically, Montana has played for both the 49ers and Chiefs!

  6. When using our Passenger Search, remember to use the passenger’s original name, not the Americanized name! For example, “Frank” could be Francesco, Franz, Franciszek, etc. Records were filled out at Port of Departure, not Ellis Island. Good luck! 🗽🧐

  10. Happy ! 🎉 From 1910 to 1940, 1 million Chinese immigrants came to the U.S. via Angel Island! Many came to Ellis as well! 🗽 Here’s a famed Augustus Sherman portrait of a Chinese woman on Ellis, which is displayed at The National Museum of Immigration!

  16. Martin Luther King, Sr. on a List of US Citizens sailing home from Hamburg, Germany where he had attended a Baptist Conference. Learning about German reformer Martin Luther is what inspired him to change his name and his son's name (they were both born Michael King).
