Sounds like Peter Montgomery has died. A gentle giant with a southern drawl, who had a knack for brilliant ideas.

I met him only once, 2011 or 2012 at MSR.
I of course kept a copy of his PhD thesis in my office and had implemented his ECM things, read everything he published in Math. Comp etc. But I didn't really know what to say to him. What do you say to such a man that you admire? -
