"our laws are unable to catch up with a fact of life, which is that I belong here & I’m an American." h/t Kids that grow up in America & are American in every sense of the word deserve access to education & a right to travel as Americans.

God, look at their strength. You can see it in their shoulders, in their tears, in the way they hold each other. We are still here. We've always been here. We will not be ignored or forgotten.

Border crossings are down overall, have been declining for years w/out wall. Only reason asylum-seekers would cross illegally is b/c they can't legally-- has essentially closed up the border. Stats show new immigrants make US communities safer, reduce crime.

A note to journalists: context matters. Please ask tougher questions before doing a President’s bidding. ⁦⁩ is 1 of most well-funded ($40.6B/yr). Xenophobia is costing us $, lives, while military used merely as a political prop.

Eduardo is in Irwin Detention Facility which has numerous human rights abuse cases against it. The Southern Poverty Law Center tried to do a wellness check on him & the facility refused to grant access. This case is being fast-tracked due to his immigrant rights activism.

A government shutdown now rages over a border wall & news outlets are in overdrive covering the political horse race. Meanwhile immigrant children continue to be jailed and killed in detention facilities. We must humanize the conversation. The consequences are life or death.

New rule in #2019 : You can’t be Xenophobic and Anti-Semitic & call yourself a Christian. Jesus was a poor Jewish immigrant. Hard stop. You also can’t call yourself pro-American & still salute the battle flag of a traitorous Confederacy.

How sad that so many people are blaming the parents of migrant children for their deaths! Their parents are fleeing to a safer country precisely to protect their children. One might as well blame Mary and Joseph for fleeing to Egypt to protect their son Jesus (Mt 2:13-22).

Also, just to be clear people are crossing illegally because the government isn’t allowing them to do so legally. & as reminds us regularly, the border most ppl crossing is Pacific Ocean. Net migration from is 0.

Some facts about walls. Ladders have been a thing since 8000 BC. Boats(Pesse canoe, found in the Netherlands) est. around same time. Great Wall of China was finished around 206 BC & no longer in use, for a reason. People have been in flight since 1903.

Have we considered maybe doesn't care if there's an attack somewhere b/c of this action? It would be the perfect excuse to speed implementation of xenophobic policies.
