I loved Cate Blanchett in the role.

Yes, she was excellent. My favorite portrayal of her was by Glenda Jackson in the 1971 BBC series, Elizabeth R (hence my Twitter handle), which was a groundbreaking production. Here’s the first episode - the remainder are on YouTube if you enjoy it:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hyeUxYW4-YA …

So glad that series is preserved. Jackson conveyed the ferocious intellect in a way I've never seen attempted elsewhere.
-
I agree. Glenda Jackson was brilliant as Good Queen Bess

-
Television didn’t look very good in 1971 in terms of superficial values like shaky sets - But today you wouldn't get such an intelligently-scripted enterprise - or Glenda Jackson. Who is just astonishing in that role.
-
I agree. The sets and overall production quality look very primitive, but the superb acting is timeless. It would be amazing to see Glenda Jackson play an elderly Queen Bess now, though I don't think she acts anymore. She went into politics for awhile then seemed to disappear.

Breaking news. Trump just declared that an accord could be reached with Mexico on NAFTA this weekend. Canada would join later. Does that mean our politicians are selling us short. US has reached a deal with Mexico. Now it’s Canada’s turn ?
-
Do you have a link for this news please?

Is this what you’re referring to Luc?
https://twitter.com/reuters/status/1033120962991058944?s=21 …
-
Yup but the title did not refer to bilateral issues according to the US side. Some little voice in my head is saying we are going to get fucked on these negotiations. But royally fucked. Sorry if I don’t have a positive feeling on this
-
I agree. He’s out to screw us in general, much of which he’s under orders to do from Putin.

She was such a clever clever lady!
-
Yes she was. Some of her writings were amazing

-
I'll confess I want to read more about her but keep getting caught up in WW2 history!
-
I know what you mean! I started with the Tudors then kept going further and further back to understand how things unfolded. Then shot forward to wwii. Nice problem to have !!

-
Peter the Great was also a great read. My copy is falling apart..... :(
-
Oh yes! Everything is connected to everything else. Russian history is fascinating. Poor children. Always feel sad when I think about those Romanov royals
-
The story of Tsar Nicholas & the Russian revolution has always fascinated me. I always wonder if Anastasia survived? I don’t think so though. Have you seen the 1971 film NICHOLAS & ALEXANDRA? It’s epic.
-
Not yet but I saw Rasputin with the late great Alan Rickman.
