Congress needs remote voting. Period. Full stop.
We must effectively modernize & govern during this time of unprecedented global health crisis.
This can and should be temporary.
We have 21st century technology and we need to use it to protect our communities now.
I’ve been pushing for this behind the scenes for 2 weeks now so that we can continue to focus on serving our constituents who are in great need. I’ve had many, many conversations w/ Members on both sides of the aisle who believe that we should be leading by example.
This means legislating effectively on behalf of the American people while at the same time also heeding very specific and direct public health advice from the experts at CDC & county public health depts across the country. The same advice we are giving to our constituents.
The public health concerns on the Hill have been largely brushed under the rug. Capitol Hill was already way too slow in updating the procedures for tours, visitors etc to protect the public’s health & safety. This put constituents, staffs, Cap Hill admin, & Cap Police at risk.
Every single American deserves a vote from their Rep & Senator at this critical time. The only way this safely happens is with remote voting. B/c as more & more Reps/Senators are quarantined, that deprives districts & states & some of the American people of their vote.
