I want to thank all of the government employees who showed extraordinary professionalism and dedication during this shutdown. I know this was a significant financial hardship for thousands of #NY21 families in my district.

This government shutdown was unnecessary and inexcusable. I will continue to be a strong voice - with a voting record to back it up - to fund our federal agencies. Now I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come to a deal to address the need for border security.

It's stunning and outrageous that so many Americans don't want to secure our borders. They want to allow criminals, predators, gangs, drugs, cartels, human traffickers illegal weapons and terrorists to come into our country with no end in sight. Open borders are a total disaster.

No. 1. We don't have open borders. 2. Most who here illegally flew in and overstayed their visa. No wall fixes that. 3. Drugs are arriving via mail and legal ports of entry. 4. Weapons are used to kill by US citizens who bought them legally. Facts matter when solving issues.
