We must work to end this shutdown immediately & fix our broken immigration system. I strongly hope that my newly elected Democratic colleagues - who promised to work across the aisle - will come to the negotiation table to discuss the President’s common sense compromise.
This is an important step in the right direction to restart negotiations. I urge @SpeakerPelosi and @SenSchumer to come to the table to reopen the government and reform aspects of our broken immigration system.

Elise...I agree with you but don’t waste your breath or your time. While folks like you & @RepJoshG attempt to cross the aisle & find some middle ground, the @TheDemocrats have been hijacked by the far left of their party and will agree to nothing as long as it comes from @POTUS

The problem has *nothing* to do with Pelosi & Schumer coming to a table.
It has EVERYTHING to do with #WheresMitch McConnell refusing to allow a vote on a bipartisan agreement already reached.

DACA is already safe for another year, so why would Dems give up anything for something they already have?
And let’s not forget Trump created this entire DACA mess in the first place.
Trump’s DACA and TPS “concessions” are simply the renewal of programs that he ended and courts said he couldn’t end.
Because they are not caving to the school yard bully? And doing what the people elected them to do? Why’s he not holding the government hostage for gun control, healthcare, and climate change? All of these rank higher for “emergencies”.
