Wait really? How can this be?
-
We used to have it (through 2018). But the argument is basically that with Covid, the long lines/time are a public health risk.

In laypersons terms pls

Straight ticket voting in person means you can vote for just one party down the whole ballot with one click. Makes it very easy to vote for one party and means less drop-off for down ballot races.

Thank god! I dread having to make sure I select a Democrat in every race.

That's great! It's so nerve-wracking to try to pick out the Democrats all the way down the line

I think this is a very good ruling given COVID. not certain it is a long-term good. Lots of good R judges have lost seats in Harris County as it has turned more blue, likely due in part to straight ticket voting: there's no way these voters have knowledge re these judges.
-
And unfortunately some bad Dem judges have replaced them. And by good and bad I mean strictly skill as a judge - knowledge of and following rules, impartiality, actually ruling on MSJs and other motions - not their leaning. Huge damage to case flow.
