As a parent, I would rather deal with virtual school and those issues than have my daughter grieve the loss of a teacher or a friend. As a former teacher, those are my friends and former colleagues who did NOT sign up to put their lives on the line.
Teachers are already also social workers, surrogate parents, and mentors who dip into their own pockets for supplies and food for hungry kids. They already face the threat of taking on a school shooter. When do we start protecting the teachers who protect our kids?
