Let’s have a conversation. I want to #DefundThePolice. Let’s discuss why. Rules: No personal attacks. Ask sincere questions. Remember we are all on a journey to learn about this, but in different places. And remember that we are working for a common goal - a more just society.

Communities need a say on who carries a badge/gun in their community. Civilian review board for every hire. There also needs to be real consequences for actions. Don’t defund, deactivate the union. The police have been policing themselves for too long. Stop that first.

Those are part of what the movement is about. Defund doesn't mean take away all the $, just take some of the functions they do (mental health, social work) and give those functions and $ to the appropriate people.

I know the defund part, it is a bad discript work though, but that will not fix the culture of most police forces. Until there is a 3rd party/community oversight, it still allows for the “good old boy” network to operate. New rules need to be implemented on a federal level.
