I have something I say to my daughter every day I drop her at school too. (It’s an expression of love that only makes sense to the two of us because it grew out of a longstanding private joke.) I make sure I say it without fail. Like a verbal amulet of protection.
Everyday when I drop my daughter off for school I tell her, “I love you, have fun,” because I have to know my last words in case the unthinkable happens. We shouldn’t have to fear sending our children to school. We must pass common sense gun legislation and ban assault weapons.

Or homeschool your children and save them from the same environment that created the threat. Public education is toxic and not required to obtain a decent education. But sure, lets blame guns for the actions of children broken by the system/thier parents and ignored by society

This is profound. I say it, because, well, I love her and hope she has fun. Kind of strange you do it out of some dark desire to absolve yourself of guilt in case something terrible happens to her. Your poor daughter is starving for affection.

I do the same thing. I look closely at their faces. Kiss them (even though my sons think they are too old) and yell I love you as they run out the door. Truth is I would have done this either way, except for trying to burn their faces in my brain just in case....horrible
