The UK is currently in a state where it is de facto still applying all EU rules without having a say on them. It is called TRANSITION PERIOD. There seems to be a considerable amount of UK politicians who have not even understood that. Which honestly worries me for the future.

Today I saw Z a doctoral student at Harvard, who is stuck in the UK and cannot enter the US nor can she receive financial aid from the US because of her nationality. Harvard are too busy covering their asses to really help her. Anyone willing to report on her story?

I'm teaching a course this spring on governing digital technologies, . Much of the syllabus traces how the conventional wisdom on these conflicts, including ones over privacy, property, speech, and governance, has evolved.

Tricky bit is becoming so absorbed in the promotion of one's technical fix or solution to forget that the overall goal is justice, welfare, the social good.

Is there an ethnography of data collection and processing practices within a large tech company, e.g. Google, Facebook ? And if there isn't, how to overcome NDAs & proprietary walls to do this essential work?

Fascinating talk by comparing goals of welfare economics to ML fairness, demonstrating how fairness constraints can make everyone worse off

brightly addresses the conundrum between collective and individual fairness. Interesting the comparison with the (case-by-case justice), similar to good-faith interpretation in IT and FR: again and together
