For those absorbing the news about Anthony Bourdain who haven't read KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL, I strongly recommend picking it up, even now under such sad circumstances. I read it 15 yrs ago, not giving a rip about food (I was bored; it was on someone's bedtable) and was mesmerized.

An empty chair at Barney Greengrass with Anthony Bourdain's regular breakfast order: Nova Scotia Lox and egg scramble. Staff say his humble humor is greatly missed at the deli counter.

War correspondents do amazing work, but how many news programs captured the confusion, fear, and constant ominousness of being in a country at war the way Anthony Bourdain's 2006 episode of “No Reservations” did in Beirut?

One take away from the new memoir is that the author doesn’t have a very high opinion of Republicans in Congress.

In the next decade, debt will exceed 100% of GDP and Medicare will have to cut hospital benefits, or we will have substantial tax increases. The political dysfunction that will accompany these crises will be ugly.

Pres. Obama pressed American banks to sidestep sanctions barring Iran from the U.S. financial system. The transaction didn't take place, but only because the banks had better legal and moral sense. What's the word for this? Oh, that's right--collusion.
