Spent the day at Monterey Park meeting with community leaders and honoring the lives that were tragically and senselessly taken from us too soon. More than 116 Americans die everyday from gun violence. It doesn’t need to be this way. We need national gun reform.

Tyre Nichols should be alive today. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Laquan McDonald and Tamir Rice should be alive today. Their murders are a painful reminder that we must do more to ensure our country lives up to the promise of freedom and fairness for all.

My thoughts go out to the community of Half Moon Bay and the victims’ loved ones during this tragic time. CA has seen 2 mass shootings in the last 3 days. Far too many lives have been lost due to gun violence and here in CA, we refuse to accept this as the new normal.

This weekend should’ve been the start of a joyous Lunar New Year celebration. Instead, we woke up to news of yet another horrifying act of gun violence claiming the lives of 10 people. My thoughts are with the victims’ loved ones & the communities affected by this attack.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. taught us that if we all work together, we can bend the arc of the moral universe & create a more just world. Today on #MLKDay, let’s recommit ourselves to Dr. Kings’ dream towards economic justice, educational opportunity & equality for all.

Here in California, we understand the impacts of a warming climate which is why we have one of the largest & most extensive emergency response systems in the world. More storms are still coming so we’re urging Californians to do your part to keep safe & be prepared.
