I hope we'll find when more states report that the mail ballot rejection rate in 2020 was down from 2016 due to a combination of changes to laws, education efforts, and election officials working with voters to fix problems

.@VotingInMass reporting 20,036 mail ballots rejected in 2020, or 0.8% of the 2.4 million returned ballots. In 2016, MA reported to the federal government that 5,152 of 156K mail ballots were rejected, or a rejection rate of 3.3%. A nice improvement despite more mail ballots

I believe I remember reading somewhere (maybe here!) that elections with higher mail voting rates tend to have lower rejection rates. Am I remembering that accurately? And if so, is a reason known?

If I had to guess, since there were so many more people voting by mail, the education on how to properly fill out a ballot is better than in an election year where not as many people vote via that method.

we saw the rejection rate go down significantly from April to August in Wisconsin. I'm very interested to see how low we got it for November as voters and clerks were more comfortable with the process
