Yes I’m off the beat. But in Illinois, the GOP nominee for US Senate, Mark Curran, a staunch Catholic, said the late US Rep. John Lewis was “not much of a civil rights leader” for supporting abortion rights. He “might have been instrumental in the civil rights issue at one time.”

@ElectMarkCurran that our Catholic faith must be a seamless garment, as Cardinal Bernardin taught us, in which we hold dear a "consistent ethic of life." Standing for equality & civil rights for those who have been left behind is part of a pro life ethic.
And I have never once been against civil rights or equality for all, regardless of race, gender, creed, or background. To claim otherwise is disingenuous. I've built my career on treating others with dignity and respect. But I also call out those who go against those values.

But Mark, if you did indeed make this comment about John Lewis, it is so demoralizing esp when you need all the Catholic Republican voters like me that you can get. Talking about a man like this considered the "conscience of the Congress" right after he died? Just stop.
