There's no question that reforms are needed in #LawEnforcement. And that the bad apples are protected by the unions & "code of silence". But there are MANY good LEOs. We cannot even begin to have a discussion if the next step is #DefundThePolice. 2/ #ILSen #Twill #protests2020
I fought against the bad apples, who defied policy & ignored their oath. There are PLENTY of other chiefs/sheriffs who do/did the same. No leader of LEOs wants to lead those who aren't dedicated to their oath & service. But #DefundThePolice isn't the answer. 3/ #ILSen #Twill
Reforms are needed. Whether it's ending mandatory minimums or a really thorough re-examining of the harsh sentences handed down by the criminal justice system for certain offenses. But that's the dialogue I wish to have. And I would hope we can. 4/x #ILSen #Twill #protests2020
