cops are not the only profession that risk their life (they're not even close to the deadliest job in America), get PTSD, work themselves to the bone, miss important family moments. literally NOTHING in there is unique to cops, but most other jobs manage without murdering people
As I've said in response to numerous others, missed family events aren't the main focus of this thread. It's the way the job impacts a LEO's entire life. How what is seen on duty gets carried w/ them off duty. The mental & physical exhaustion. The strain. All of it. #Protests2020

Sounds like a pretty crappy system if it puts life and death in the hands of people who are then forced to be physically and mentally exhausted, under so much strain as you say. Maybe we should fix that.
