Gun violence is traumatizing an entire generation of young children. We must do everything we can to pass common sense gun safety reforms to reduce shootings. But we must also address the underlying trauma that children are facing on an almost daily basis.https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/2/15/21138724/chicago-weekend-shootings-gun-violence-children-wounded-feb-14-17-parkway-gardens …

I saw the effects of gun violence first hand during my 12 yrs as sheriff of Lake Co. I can tell you, without a doubt, the problem isn't the lack of
#guncontrol legislation, the problem is the improper focus of the legislation. Legal gun owners are not the problem!#ILSen#Twill2 replies 1 retweet 3 likes -

But what of the gunmen in mass shooting incidents who bought their weapons legally? Or the guns purchased legally and then used in domestic violence cases? These are legal gun owners who WERE the problem. What's the solution?

I think Australia would disagree.

Australia is a flawed example because Australia doesn't have the 2A. The Australian PM at the time of Sandy Hook, I believe, wrote an op-ed stating he was glad Australia didn't have the 2A or the "assault weapons" ban wouldn't have been possible.

The 2a is irrelevant here. The commenter said gun laws haven't reduced violence in any nation. That's factually incorrect.

Since the 1950s/60s, the number of guns in America has increased and the rate of gun crimes has gone down. We have a duty to keep people safe from evil while also protecting the 2A rights of law-abiding citizens. This, just like health care, will not be solved overnight.

<<Since the 1950s/60s, the number of guns in America has increased and the rate of gun crimes has gone down.>> Is that true? What's the data source? I'd assume that as the population rose (which it has), so would the number of gun crimes (or any crimes).
