Gun violence is traumatizing an entire generation of young children. We must do everything we can to pass common sense gun safety reforms to reduce shootings. But we must also address the underlying trauma that children are facing on an almost daily basis.https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/2/15/21138724/chicago-weekend-shootings-gun-violence-children-wounded-feb-14-17-parkway-gardens …

I saw the effects of gun violence first hand during my 12 yrs as sheriff of Lake Co. I can tell you, without a doubt, the problem isn't the lack of
#guncontrol legislation, the problem is the improper focus of the legislation. Legal gun owners are not the problem!#ILSen#Twill2 replies 1 retweet 3 likes -

But what of the gunmen in mass shooting incidents who bought their weapons legally? Or the guns purchased legally and then used in domestic violence cases? These are legal gun owners who WERE the problem. What's the solution?

Let me rephrase: the majority of law-abiding gun owners are not the problem. Yes, we must deal with truly evil, sick individuals & keep guns away from them but we must also respect due process. Mag capacity limits/semi-auto rifle bans won't address the majority of gun violence.
