The statue of slave owner Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Park, a former slave market, adds insult to injury. It’s well past time we move on from this painful chapter in our nation’s capital. I am introducing a bill to move the Jackson statue to a museum.

As a museum leader, please think carefully about this. The resources required to care for statuary of that size is staggering. W/35k museums in the US, more than half operate with annual budgets less that $250k w/woefully underpaid staff & volunteers. The costs are more than cash

We. Don’t. Want. It. The public doesn’t need it. No one will miss it. Life will go on without it. The world will be a better place now that it’s gone. Signed/Museums

Hope that most of the statues will be placed in local museums where the subjects’ lives & complexities can be examined in greater detail.

They would have to hire people willing to do that first. I guarantee the way museum industry is now theyll be talking about "the senseless riots" that they had to protect the staue from.

You can also rename Benning Road, US Virgin Islands Avenue. It is the only US "territory" to not be represented in the form of a street. And Benning's history was "checkered"
