Breaking News: Historic vote on #DCStatehood next week. House expected to pass HR 1, the For The People Act of 2019, which endorses DC statehood. Neither chamber has ever voted to endorse DC statehood. The momentum is building for a floor vote on HR 51, my DC statehood bill.

We can talk about retrocession when the Dakotas, MT, ID, and WY are merged into one state. If like fifty mostly white dudes in the middle of nowhere get like 12 senators between them, why shouldn’t a diverse city get two?

DC should be a municipality or city of the State of Maryland instead. DC should not be entitled to 2 US Senators & it has NO municipalities within it like all States do. It's also not large enough to be a State.

Not large enough by what measurement? Is it population? There are more people in DC than in Vermont or Wyoming. How about growth? DC has the highest % increase in pop. across all states & territories from 2010-2018 (16.73%) - over 2% above the next in line, Utah.

In 2016 more Washingtonians went to the polls than in any other election in history. 86% favored
#DCStatehood. Yesterday hundreds of DC residents volunteered a day off to tell their story to Representatives and Senators. Washington wants Statehood.
