The President shouldn’t have authority to federalize the @DCPoliceDept. POTUS can’t federalize other local and state police. MPD’s first responsibility is and must always remain protecting DC residents and visitors. MPD is not an arm of the federal government. #HandsOffDC
As long as it puts @DCPoliceDept on equal footing with @NYPDnews for @UNPOL issues, & ChicagoPD, @LAPDHQ, @SFPD, both on local gov independence, & reliable, as needed, issue jurisdiction transfer to Federal law enforcement, #DCstatehood supporters will overwhelmingly support this
