Great thread from on an early conversation at AEI.

Watching AEI conversation with Sen. @MittRomney on the future of conservative family policy. Child policy, including the Child Tax Credit, should be about the best interests of children and child well-being and NOT a focus for social engineering by conservative think tanks. (1)

Also-in BBB, we began to recognize that families live complex lives. Children move, income changes year-over-year (more research coming). Romney's plan would base benefits on the prior year. Makes delivering bfits easier - but less connected to how families actually live.

Wow. Brad Parscale and I grew up in about the same place. His high school was about 10 miles away from mine. He graduated a few years after I did. Several folks a bit older and a bit younger than me ended up in Republican politics. Super creepy to see this today.

A stunning text exchange between former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale and former campaign official Katrina Pierson

Good news to close out the week: #Virginia's #Medicaid program now covers new moms for a year after child birth (previously 2 months)! This is an imp. step in reducing maternal mortality in VA, esp. for Black mothers, & creating a just health care system!

Fantastic explainer on this morning about personhood.

.@carlissc "Before the Civil War states had different definitions of when a Black person was a person...we fight a whole Civil War about it...14th Amendment passes...so in theory we shouldn't be able to allow states to define when personhood begins.." npr.org/2022/07/06/110

“If members of Congress begin to see delivering payments to particularly very young children as an investment, they might change their thinking about tax policy.” – gives us a thorough picture as to why the #ChildTaxCredit was such a success.
