You speak too soon, son. A sense of victory trumps actual victory. Enjoy this short-lived ecstacy. In the long run, a sense of failure will overwhelm.
#ResistFascism
Resist Fascism? You’re kidding, surely? So, let me get this right. An element of society absolutely refused to accept the democratic will of the people and wanted to overthrow the result of the referendum.Surely this action alone is more aligned to fascism?Happy to be corrected.
The majority of German's voted for Hitler do we celebrate them or those who resisted? A populist demagogue used the hatred and prejudice of others to achieve his own xenophobic goals. The UK is worse off because of it.
When exactly did the majority of Germans vote for Hitler? Which election specifically? And I'm not counting the elections where the Nazi party was the only choice.
Hitler and the Nazi party won the majority of votes in the summer of 1932 national election.
While Hitler undoubtedly came to power democratically, he never won a majority in any of the 1932 elections.
He and his party won the most votes of any party in 1932.
Correct. But he didn’t have a majority and no other parties would entertain forming a coalition with the Nazis - there has been months of power vacuum until Hindenburg authorised Hitler to form a minority government.
The point I was making was the idea that a democratic process can't produce hideous results is wrong. Brexiteers argue constantly "it was democracy so all else is golden". The Brexit result was bad fruit from a poisoned tree and being told to just swallow it down doesn't work.
Oh yes I completely agree with that point
