Sir Desmond Swayne: "Opposition parties supported giving EU citizens the vote in our general election which sums up the absurdity of our Parliament against the People." @JuliaHB1 | @DesmondSwaynepic.twitter.com/a0kDFhft93

No taxation without representation...and a right to help choose that representation. Seems only fair.

Therefore you’re happy with UK citizens overseas to have the vote removed? The unemployed? Prisoners? Others unable to work?

Nope. As full citizens they are automatically entitled to vote.

Only one of those categories are “citizens”. They are not Uk taxpayers. The others would also be able to vote.

You're talking crap. If you're entitled to a full UK passport you're a UK citizen. If you are entitled to settled status in the UK you should have the vote. One does not negate the other.

Not “no taxation without representation” then? You’re arguing that FoM is wrong?

You seem confused. Full UK citizens are entitled to vote regardless. EU citizens, whilst living and working here and therefore paying taxes, should also have a say in how those taxes are spent. I think you know this but have no real argument so just bluster.

I’m not confused. I asked you if the ones that were not working or paying taxes were ok with you too? You said it was based on settled status. FOM says that isn’t necessary. What is it?

Anyone who would qualify for settled status under the current scheme should be entitled to vote. Anyone paying taxes for a continuous period before an election should be entitled to vote. All full UK citizens should be entitled to vote.
