I am no less a true Brit than you are. Respecting the result would mean respecting the way it was achieved and ignoring the current realities. A true Brit would realize that asking again, in light of that, is the fair and right thing to do.
In a representative democracy it is given to our representatives in parliament. They then seek to represent ALL their constituents best interests. You're really having a hard time with this basic concept.
