Winter is 3 months not 6. December 22nd to March 20th. I personally don't think "winter" is a good reason to not have a GE though. There are plenty of other reasons though.

I asked because the contention was regarding it being a recent phenomenon. It's neither recent nor common. You are correct though it was an unnecessary side path that got very crowded.

Prior to 1974 it was much more common to have elections in the colder months than it was in the warmer ones
