As a side effect, one could argue that the year since Theresa May published her Brexit Deal hasn't been a total waste of time (as I've often suggested) because that time was needed to get Boris-Vote-Leave-Johnson's name on the deal, which will make the referendum more legitimate.
Have you considered this. Boris rejected May's deal because of the backstop. He now says it's going to be easy to negotiate an FTA before the transition ends. In which case, under May's deal, the backstop would never have come into force.
