It's the role of parliament to do what's best for the country as a whole. The cynical reason BoJo wanted an election is so a no deal Brexit could slip through unchallenged. His minority government doesn't set the agenda.

This parliament has voted against everything and in favour of nothing (except the Brady amendment). We need an election to break the stalemate. The current situation is toxic.

And when you say “to let no deal slip through unchallenged” that ignores the small matter of the electorate being given a say.

The electorate haven't been given a say on No-Deal exit. Even the best-case outcome is so negative a responsible government wouldn't even offer it... especially now things have been emotionally charged so much that many Brexit voters would rubber-stamp their own death warrant

Given that the Conservatives or the Brexit party would be representing either a deal or no deal, other parties remain or 2nd ref, public would have a say. Don’t think Conservatives want no deal exit and as things are looking more promising, we could end up with deal shortly.

A General Election isn't specifically about Brexit: many ppl will vote because they don't like Johnson, don't like Corbyn, or don't like their domestic policies. First Past the Post also means the "winner" will likely have < 50%. GE = no unambiguous mandate for Brexit resolutions

We need an election because the current parliament will not deliver on the result of the 2016 referendum. However, if we were to hold another referendum on the type of leave we went for, it would have to be on the basis of any deal agreed with the EU or no deal.

The ref case made for Brexit explicitly disavowed No Deal exit. As ppl keep saying, "no deal is better than a bad deal" -- proper negotiators' no-deal, meaning no-penalty return to status quo. Revoke & remain has to be kept open, in case the ppl decide the exit cost is too high

Leaving on WTO terms was explicitly stated to be the outcome of failure to reach a deal by David Cameron and others. We will agree to differ.

None of this addresses the issue of the need for a functioning government, however, so an election is still needed.

It's very simple. An election will NOT resolve Brexit but a referendum will. Referendum first then an election after. Unless of course you're real objection is fear regarding the result?
