What has the Customs Union done for us? UK exports of goods to the EU have grown by just 0.2% on average; dwarfed by goods exports to the rest of the world (3.3% a year) Since the ‘90s, a deficit in goods with the EU of £6bn has ballooned to £95bn a year https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/04/customs-union-soft-brexit-trade-goods …
As for water and salad the chlorine level is very low compared to US chicken. It's banned in the EU for a reason. As for not having to buy it. Very true. However when the market is overwhelmed by the stuff and local producers suffer and collapse what then?

Chlorine washes are used for cleaning fish & salad in the UK. It’s in our tap water & it’s safe. For the most part, the US doesn't even use chlorine:80 to 90% of US chicken is treated with peracetic acid, which the EU Food Safety Agency declared safe for human health 5 years ago.

And yet it remains banned by the EU and, amongst other things, has been a block in US vs EU trade talks. It's clear we will be bludgeoned in any trade talks with a Trump US as a no deal Brexit would mean we need one quickly and desperately. I suspect you'll disagree.
