Now that said there is one important point that both the French and German invasions highlight. Both attempted a rush to Moscow in order to destroy the morale of their enemy.

Yes well done Bel three tweets later you work your way to the point of my OP
If you want to discuss the Napoleonic wars that would be awesome but I won't do it in public because I like you. The point is; turns out in real life no one is above baffling mistakes

Perhaps the race to Moscow point was the right one to roll with instead of the impossible invasion of Britian

Perhaps you wouldn't have to try and derail a point about human behaviour (which was clearly written to be punchy) with an essay on the semantics of the Napoleonic Wars if you had a real answer to it? ;)

Bad tactics - we have to protect historical truth. Bending history to make a point all too common and misleads people.

And yet you've managed 6 tweets now without referring to the point of my OP... so it looks like your tactics are working at least.

Oh I'm not arguing against that at all - I was just pointing out that the historical comparison isn't right - that'll damage the effectiveness of the point to people who are aware of the history.

I would wager you are the only one that was bothered by it because you were the only one that (perhaps justly) felt got at by the OP. And that's fair, I apologise if it seemed personal, but this has been a totally unnecessary discussion.

Unnecessary to the WoW stuff, but I think more important overall, albeit for a smaller audience, which Im happy to do on Twitter. Didn't really get bothered at all, just enjoy spreading history. But no OP didn't get at me - Many examples of history having its tremendous derpings

There's another interesting discussion on what makes for interesting writing in fantasy. Going for real, hyper-real etc. Would the narrative of real life have been more interesting if key people didn't make tremendously bad decisions all the time.

Historical narrative when seen from distance always suffers from knowing end points. Germany had to invade Russia so the Allies could defeat Germany for example. Fascinating subject.
