Both @mookiebetts + @RedSox reported positions are reasonable. He wants a Trout like contract to give up being a FA and the Sox want a discount for taking on the risk of a very long-term deal. FA comp system makes it advantageous for the Sox to try to trade Mookie now. 1/2
IMO, Mookie is not Trout and the gap will likely widen as they age given their baseball reference and prospectus comps. He reminds me of Sheffield - super quick strong hands, great hand-eye - and could be a very productive player through his 30s. 2/3
Clearly, the #redsox are rebuilding. Investing $400M when you are likely to get the best return (aka play Oct baseball) in years 1-3 is not prudent. Mookie is worth Trout 
but not to the Sox since the window is closing with this core. 3/3

Love Mookie and hate to see him leave, but there’s really no other choice. The ONLY rationale to keep him this season would be to make a run for the WS. Redsox would have needed to try for that months ago - ship has sailed.
