    The entire Arts and Crafts movement did this, disregarding cost for quality. It resulted in a lot of amazing works, but no one they were marketed to could afford them. What William Morris really needed was a good accountant.

    In Vienna, the Wiener Werkstätte opened an artistic fashion enterprise as part of their Gesamtkunstwerk, in which the aesthetic of dress ought to merge with its surrounding. Opposing any mercantile logic, quality was highly prioritized over profitability.

    When talking about the garment industry, we gotta stop calling things “slave labor” when they are not. Labor can be exploitative - even grossly exploitative - and still not be slavery.

    Why is being "unbiased" seen as as a good thing when it comes to taking steps to defend human rights? I am biased: I support trans people's liberation and self determination. I am antiracist and antifascist. These are not "unbiased" perspectives. They're the ~right~ perspectives.

    LRT: I'm 2nd gen of a war diapora. Growing up, I didn't hear stories of war. I heard of the land before war, a mythical golden place--forever lost. The war was a giant emptiness: adults fell silent when it came up. Wonder if that's what it'll be like after the pandemic.
