I fail to pause, take stock, or celebrate a bit when things go well, and usually move on too quickly. This is why I decided to keep this "summary of my academic year" blog series going! Summarizes talks, papers, preprints, workshops, and other projects.

Tweeps, do you know of any studies on data that looked into 1) predictors of missing data or 2) perceived burden of EMA? I have some interested students and would love to run a replication study, but a not aware of original work in these areas.

Many funders have understood that grant reviewing wastes time & money, given the low inter-rater reliability among reviewers for anything but the lowest ~30% of applications. Solution: lotteries. What is the support for lotteries, & are results accepted by the community? ⬇️

Measurement is difficult. And knowing challenges of measurement is crucial for valid inferences.

Two investigations both found that this high-powered genetics prof ran his lab at UCL so "recklessly" that it produced potentially dozens of fraudulent papers (even if he himself didn't commit the fraud). He's taking zero responsibility. Jolly good then!

Update: APS president suggests that not signing could have represented legal negligence, left her (and board) open to legal action, and could have led to the financial ruin of APS. Some of this post was reasonable; financial dependence wasn't one of them.

Stats advice needed! I have seen the experts argue that instead of testing change scores, one ought to test the end points and add the baselines as a covariate. Did I misunderstand? More importantly, what are the key papers on this topic?

Yesterday seemed like a lot: Brexit; US revokes ban use of landmines; US bans travel from 6 more countries; senate votes against documents. But now it all makes sense I guess ..

Witnesses & documents: YAY 49, NAY 51. I hope I heard all name calls correctly but 99.9% Collins was yes and Murkovski was no.

I heard that Skinner once said to a journalist that yes, physics did quite ok with theories, but it would have done better without. I've been searching for a good hour now but cannot find anything. Does anybody remember the quote, or where I could find it? Thx 💕

I find entries in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy often extremely well written. Would you think it is acceptable to cite them in papers?

I love the casual "can you please explain" [why you faked data so badly]?
