Mindboggling that this isn't on every front page. Irish deaths over Dec-Jan period just gone are *40%* higher than same period, pre-COVID. No room in mortuaries. Government can spin the 'dying from/with Covid', but can't spin huge increase in total deaths.

Interesting, just had a quick look. Shouldn't vary that much by data source. From (poor!) memory, don't we have lack of reliable data on excess deaths, hence use of rip.ie by many to track rates? I'm not familiar enough w/ the underlying data sources.

I'm astonished this got published and have no idea what the thought process was. You surely need to talk this through with someone, before spreading potentially misleading information? I'll go through what the fundamental problem with the article is. /1 irishexaminer.com/news/arid-4105

Fair point re repeated notifications. But presumably the same issue applied in 2019? The comparison there was with total notices, unadjusted. So you’re comparing mildly inflated data with mildly inflated data. Or am I missing something?

We need far better data and more immediately available, with minimum time lag. One approach would be to have a real time database of deaths notified by those who attend for the death of a person. The death is certified and then immediately posted. Cause of death can follow.
