That Dell replaced my Pentium 4 desktop, and was 2x the speed, per core! And had two cores!

The new Macbook Pro is 2x the speed, 2x the cores, and 1/2 the weight of that Dell. And thinner than the Dell's screen!

it looks massive, but if you had a 15" PowerBook at the time the difference would be less striking :)
