So there's over 3600 couchdb servers running without authentication. Who wants to take bets on how long it'll be before they're encrypted?
doesn't MySQL's root also have an empty password by default? Why hasn't it been a problem for MySQL?

I'm surprised the Mongo stuff got so much attention. Unsecured hosts on the web have always been pwned; why not DB servers?

Because this is on a massive scale. Pretty much every exposed mongodb server has been hacked.

I believe MySQL requires a password when being configured with the standard mysql_secure_install.
