Ah man, Prop 22 in California is definitely going to pass. And the only problem it will fix is how much they would have had to pay their drivers.

I would love to hear more detailed about this. I’ve only very broadly heard both sides and a yes vote to me simply seems like they are solving a problem for themselves and leaving everyone else out to dry.

So for one your stance is a bit ambiguous but I'll assume since you do freelance videography you're aware of the negative effects of AB5 on freelance work in California. Are you referring to 22 exempting only app-based work vs. a broad AB5 repeal?

I think if gig economy companies pushed a broad AB5 repeal it'd run into more roadblocks. Dozens of industries have already received exemptions from AB5 which dilutes support for AB5 repeal. Even last month, we exempted more industrieshttps://www.blackvoicenews.com/2020/09/18/gov-signs-bill-allowing-producers-writers-musicians-and-more-to-remain-freelancers/ …

Here's a second bill passed last month exempting workers from AB5.https://californiaglobe.com/section-2/save-local-journalism-act-bill-passes-assembly-heads-to-governor/ …

Huh I didn’t know about those exceptions. I’m understanding that AB5 was rushed and completely an attack on app based drivers, but 22 seems to send it back to before where the drivers time was abused. Does 22 passing still allow for drivers to get better benefits?

Yes, prop 22 requires that time-on-job be at least 120% of minimum wage, 30c/mile reimbursement, as well as healthcare subsidies.

"For an average of 25 hours or more per week of engaged time in the calendar quarter, a payment greater than or equal to 100 percent of the average ACA contribution for the applicable average monthly Covered California premium for each month in the quarter."

15-25 hours would require a 50% payment.
