I'm not familiar with Mr. Nichols's injuries but the EMTs could assess and treat loss of blood from internal or external bleeding, elevated intracranial pressure, pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, flail chest or any number of other injuries.

Next they should have done a secondary trauma assessment that covers the patient's entire body and alertness and mental state. Here they could identify life threatening injuries that Mr. Nichols sustained in the beating and treated them.

After assessing scene safety, the first thing EMTs should do for every patient is assess their airway, bleeding, circulation and any bleeding that is an immediate life threat and treat any issues with that immediately.

Yep. I wrote about that NYT story too many times to count. It was the most significant act of election interference in FBI history—and it was coordinated by rogue pro-Trump agents at the New York City field office of the FBI.
