"There’s no such thing as herd immunity in one country. Western democracies are nevertheless acting as though domestic vaccination is their finishing line." My column on the west's chronic inability to think more than a step ahead.https://www.ft.com/content/b7e1438c-95a2-44a6-9677-74d945a741b5 …

The comma from the start has been the equivalent of a blizzard blowing into town. Sacrifice and hunkering for a few days, and then back to normal. Imagine if leaders from day one said that this would be a two year event with ups and downs... COVID comms has been a fail.

If they communicated, clearly, then we would know how to respond. And,the wild volatility of stocks would not be so predictably profitable for those with liquid capitol.

Apart from the obvious self interest of protecting against even more malignant variants, "vaccine diplomacy" is simply good foreign policy. The US establishing itself as the nation that saved the world would do wonders to clean the tarnish of it's recent reputation.

To be honest, it wouldn't be enough. Giving Puerto Rico independence or statehood, decomissioning all foreign military bases, reducing the armed forces 5x and respecting international treaties would.
