History repeats itself. Only this time, how is it that the oppressor is the Vatican?
This is an noteworthy article and the point it makes about the introduction of a spiritual brittleness in Austria, as would later happen in France, through the abolition of the monasteries is an important one.
Great article sir. Bravo and prayers from Carmel!!
Recently did a ton of research on this, just asking, "What happened to all the monasteries?" The answer was shocking & very few Catholics know.
What Joseph II didn't accomplish, the Revolutionaries and then Napoleon finished. By the 1866 secularising laws in Italy, monasticism was effectively wiped out across Europe.
Excellent article. Wasn't Joseph influence by Masonic thinking of the time?
He was influenced by Voltaire and Rationalism, which amounts to the same thing.
