Hey all you artists working in the digital medium: I am a software developer currently employed at an art museum, and we frequently put digital art in our galleries. Some of it is new. Some of it is decades old now. I have some opinions…

May delete but I had a wack discussion with an academic last night about what boils down to lying to ourselves, collectively, about our travel emissions being “worth it” as if we serve some noble, higher cause in academia. We don’t

This is heartbreaking , if you have one job, it's to encourage to come out and strongly condemn the growing incidents of racism in his country. If he genuinely wants the healing to begin, then this would be a good place to start

At the museum, we’re big fans of Christmas cards. Our shop sells loads, including one of a mouse on a lobster. It’s a complex yet beautiful metaphor. Make the season your own. Celebrate the uniqueness of your feeling. Which is exactly what one of our archivists did. [a thread]

A photo of a card in our museum shop: it's a mouse on a lobster! A classic rural English encounter.

A 1943 ad for Lysol douche. Yes, I said Lysol. Yes, the bleach.

Ad ‘she was the “perfect wife”... except for one neglect’. Shoes wife cooking, cleaning, keeping accounts, being affectionate and cheerful. ‘BUT she was careless about feminine hygiene’. Text at bottom explains importance of feminine hygiene and how Lysol helps.

...as understanding and tooling improve, it may make sense to strip the content our of the disk image and just keep the files you need. I guess my problem is mostly with the pattern where stuff sits on poor storage for years because we've not 'sorted it out' yet.

The box bed (or closed bed, or ‘lit clos’ in French) were once extremely common. Very few people had their own rooms, so sleeping in a closet offered some privacy. Legend has it they were once used to stop wolves stealing sleeping children.
