Every new business opening on the Royal Mile is owned by the same people. They sell crap to tourists and do very well from doing so. Cheap kilts and scarves from China. The place is a embarrassment to Edinburgh and Scotland. By what is anybody doing about it?

So much good sense in this report and what many locals have been asking http://for.No mention of the graffiti that's everywhere in the Old Town. Now let's see what the Council are going to do.

Being surrounded by foreigners and hearing a hundred languages is kinda what happens in tourist hotspots all over the world! Our Royal Mile is no different: but, sadly, responding with ever more tat shops, and neglect of much of its wonderful architecture and heritage.

As a resident of Edinburgh I cant remember the last time I was on the royal mile. It's not an area for residents unless working there or showing ppl round. It's the same when lived in cambridge never heard English along outside kings college not even students
