It's not only the domain, several other components are running in Azure. How many of the people that moved to gitlab installed *its own service*? Most of them just used the gitlab cloud, hence using Azure, so they''re using more of MS now than when they were just in github :-D
Gitlab started migrating to Google Cloud in Aprilhttps://venturebeat.com/2018/04/06/why-and-how-gitlab-abandoned-microsoft-azure-for-google-cloud/ …
An unfinished migration so far, in the mean time, your repositories are sitting in Azure, and your commits are generating Azure traffic :-)
I am using a self-hosted gitlab-ce instance :-)
More on that please. I am setting up a local git server for myself and this sounds cool!
Gitlab Community Edition is open source, you can install and manage an instance on your own server https://about.gitlab.com/installation/ and you can also try one of these alternatives: https://gogs.io/ https://gitbucket.github.io/
Or you can keep on using #github, after all the Linux Foundation seems to be just right with it :-)

He clearly asked for a self-hosted git solution :-)
