After over 20 years, our nutmeg tree has produced fruit 😲🌳 They are now ripe, as you can see from the vivid red covering that forms a lattice around the nutmeg seed. The seed is used to make nutmeg and the lattice to make mace.

It’s hard to believe that this is what our site used to look like! We bought an exhausted, steep-sided clay pit 60 metres deep, with no soil, 15 metres below the water table, and essentially gave it life πŸŒ±πŸŒ΄πŸ„πŸŒΊπŸŒ» #EdenProject

Thousands of people turned out to beaches today as part of Danny Boyle’s Armistice commission #PagesoftheSea. Eden, with support from Heligan, led the events at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, East Looe Beach, Perranporth Beach and Saunton Sands in Devon.

We’ve just welcomed three ancient olive trees into our Med Biome, giving them a new home after they were removed to make way for younger trees in Spain and Portugal. The giant evergreens are estimated to be up to 1,500 years old!

Our titan arum opened last night -come and see this rare beauty at Eden today! It only blooms for about 48 hours, it has the largest flowering structure in the world, it’s an endangered species and it stinks of rotting flesh!

We planted this olive tree, along with two other enormous specimens, in our Biome last month. They were removed to make way for younger trees in Spain and Portugal and are thought to be up to 1,500 years old!

Our nutmeg tree has produced fruit for what could be the first time ever in the UK! 🌳 The trees produce spices mace and nutmeg, and are difficult to grow without the right conditions, so it’s a momentous occasion for us and our Horticulture Team πŸ‘ #Nutmeg

A landmark moment for renewable energy took place at Eden today! πŸ”₯πŸͺ¨πŸ‘‰πŸŒ± Geothermal energy will be supplying heat to our Biomes and our new nursery, Growing Point.

Today at the COP26 global summit we announced plans to open our first South American site in Colombia’s Meta region. We'll work alongside the Colombian Ministry of the Environment and the Humboldt Institute to establish how an Eden Project in Colombia might look. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡΄πŸŒŽ
