They are now ripe, as you can see from the vivid red covering that forms a lattice around the nutmeg seed.
The seed is used to make nutmeg and the lattice to make mace.

Thousands of people turned out to beaches today as part of Danny Boyleβs Armistice commission #PagesoftheSea. Eden, with support from Heligan, led the events at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, East Looe Beach, Perranporth Beach and Saunton Sands in Devon.
