  2. And she chooses Victor. It's hard to do things differently, but she makes that choice. She chooses a path that supports her in regulating her nervous system. The End.

  3. Victor, on the other hand, is a calming influence. He may not have the razzle dazzle of Rick, but he is attuned to Ilsa in a way that is regulating to her system. He is the parasympathetic nervous system.

  4. Rick clearly represents trauma. He left her and broke her heart. He also represents the trauma of separation caused by war. He's the sympathetic nervous system. When they meet later there is still a significant amount of nervous system dysregulation. It's all trauma.

    I see the grad school rejection emails are hitting now and a lot of my friends are having a hard time. It's good to feel the full range of human emotions, including sadness, so take time to relish in being human by being sad. After that, delete the email and keep it pushin!!!

    Someone once told me that bartenders were very therapeutic to them when they struggled with alcohol. He made sure that he always got home safe by cab. Indeed therapy is found in spaces where a person knows that they are accepted and they belong.
